1. What is the WINDY WR4-WP, and who is it for?
It is a portable wireless anemometer display that shows live wind data from a Navis wind sensor. It is built for crane operators, temporary outdoor installations and heavy-duty industrial sites where the equipment needs to be tough. It shows current, average and peak wind speed and air temperature, and includes a wind-speed alarm.
2. How far can the display be from the sensor?
Up to 400 m in visible distance, over a wireless link (868 MHz, or 915 MHz for the FCC version). The datasheet quotes this for line of sight, so buildings or other obstructions will likely reduce it. One sensor can also feed several displays in different locations.
3. How long does the battery last, and how do I charge it?
The rechargeable LiPo battery lasts up to 2,000 hours (over 83 days) of continuous use, or up to 500 hours with the display backlight on. It charges through a standard USB-C connector, and an optional USB-C power adapter is available.
4. Does it have a wind-speed alarm?
Yes. You set a maximum wind speed, and the unit sounds an alarm (83 dB at 10 cm) when the wind exceeds it. This is useful for crane and lifting operations, where wind limits affect safety.
5. Which sensors work with it, and what comes in the box?
It works with the Navis sensors WS 010-1A (standard range), WS 011-1A (extended range) and WS 011-1SB (solar-powered, extended range). What you receive depends on the version you order:
- WR4-WP/D: display only.
- WR4-WP: display plus WS 010-1A sensor.
- WR4-WP-SB: display plus WS 011-1SB solar sensor.
- WR4-WP-FCC: display plus FCC sensor.
6. Can it be used in rain or rough conditions?
Yes. It is described as fully waterproof and comes in a shock-protected rubber cover for drops, splashes and rough handling. The display's operating temperature range is −10 to +50 °C, and it can be stored between −30 and +60 °C. The datasheet doesn't give a formal IP rating, so ask Navis or your supplier if you need one for a specification.
